Pla ra (ลาร้า, also called pla daek) is a traditional northeastern Thai and Lao seasoning produced by fermenting fish with roasted rice flour and salt, fermented in a closed container. Pla ra is mostly used in northeastern Thai and Lao food such as green papaya salad. Pla ra has a very strong smell with salty and sour flavours.
